12.1 Create Rubric

Rubrics can help ensure consistent and impartial grading and help students focus on teacher’s expectations. A rubric is a scoring tool that can use to evaluate graded work. When teachers create a rubric, teachers divide the assigned work into parts. Teachers can provide clear descriptions of the characteristics of the work associated with each part, at varying levels of skill.

Students can use a rubric to organise their efforts to meet the requirements of the graded work. If students can access to rubrics before they complete their work, they can get transparency of teacher’s grading methods.

Please refer to the Blackboard Official Guide for details:

12.2 Grade with Rubric

Teachers can create a rubric, associate it to an assignment or discussion, and use it for grading. The rubric will appear on the assignment or discussion page you chose. Please note that only associate one rubric to each item, an assignment with questions cannot associate a rubric.

To begin grading an assessment, go into the Gradebook and select the assessment to grade. Select the Submissions link. On the Submissions page, select student names to access their individual submissions and the rubric.
