File Size

Turnitin will accept files:

• has a minimum of 20 words;
• less than 40MB; and
• is less than 800 pages.

Note Files of a large size can be reduced in size by moving non-text content.

File Type

Turnitin will only accept files that can generate Similarity Reports. This includes:

• Adobe® PDF
• Microsoft Word® (.doc/.docx)
• Microsoft PowerPoint® (.pptx, .ppt, .ppsx, and .pps)
• Microsoft Excel® (.xls and .xlsx)
• HTML
• Plain text (.txt)
• Rich text format (.rtf)
• OpenOffice Text (.odt)
• Hangul Word Processor file (.hwp)
• WordPerfect® (.wpd)
• PostScript (.ps/.eps)
• Google Docs via Google Drive™

Note For using an unsupported word processor, please save the plain text file as .txt or .rtf in order to upload to Turnitin.

Note Turnitin will NOT accept PDF image files, forms, or portfolios, files that do not contain highlightable text (e.g. a scanned file - usually an image), documents containing multiple files or files created with software other than Adobe Acrobat®.
