10.1Adding Teaching Materials

Go to Editing Mode, on the Course Page, click the "Actions Icon" on the top right corner and select "Turn editing on" to manage the course content.

With "Editing On", click "Add an activity or resource" on the Course Page to add the following course materials (Moodle called resources):

10.1.8 .mp4 File (Stored on OneDrive and Put the link on Moodle) **UPDATED**

 


 

10.1.1 Book

A book resource creates multi-page materials in a book-like format. It is an advanced feature in Moodle. Please contact ITU for operation detail.

 


 

10.1.2 File

A file resource can be any file types that students need a corresponding software to open it.

Note Uploading files easily to the course by drag and drop operation, please refer to [10.2 Course Files Drag-n-Drop] for details.

1 Name : The name to be displayed on the Course Page.

2 Description : Adding file description if any. Check the box below if you want to display the description to the Course Page.

3 Select a file by browse file or drag and drop file.

4 Display : Defining the way on how to show uploaded files.

  • Automatic : Let Moodle system to select the best display option for the file type.
  • Embed : The file is displayed within the page.
  • Force download : The user is prompted to download the file rather than showing in browser.
  • Open : Only the file is displayed in the browser window.
  • In pop-up : The file is displayed in a new browser window without menus or an address bar.
  • Show more : Allow advanced option like configuring pop-up window size.

5 Availability : Determining whether students can access the file.

6 Restrict access : Restricting student access this file by different criteria. Please refer to [13.2 Restrict Access] for details.

7 Activity completion : Set the completion criteria. If set Completion tracking to "Students can manually mark the activity as completed", there will be a checkbox next to the file for student use. [Student: Completion Tracking]

8 To confirm the settings, click "Save and return to course".

  • "Save and return to course" : Save the settings and return to the Course Page.
  • "Save and display" : Save the settings and return to the File Summary Page.
  • "Cancel" : discard all changes.

 


 

10.1.3 Folder

A folder resource can be different types of files and uploaded all at once for displaying several course resources together.

Note Uploading a folder easily to the course by drag and drop a .zip file and choose "Unzip files and create folder"

1 Name : The name to be displayed on the Course Page.

2 Description : Adding folder description if any. Check the box below if you want to display the description to the course page.

3 Select files by browse files or drag and drop files.

4 Display folder contents : "On a separate page" / "Inline on a course page".

5 Availability : Determining whether students can access the folder.

6 Restrict access : Restricting student access this folder by different criteria. Please refer to [13.2 Restrict Access] for details.

7 Activity completion : Set the completion criteria. If set Completion tracking to "Students can manually mark the activity as completed", there will be a checkbox next to the folder for student use. [Student: Completion Tracking]

8 To confirm the settings, click "Save and return to course".

  • "Save and return to course" : Save the settings and return to the Course Page.
  • "Save and display" : Save the settings and return to the Folder Summary Page.
  • "Cancel" : discard all changes.

 


 

10.1.4 Label

A label resource can be a short message or reminder for separating resource and activities in a topic section.

1 Label text : Editing label content.

2 Availability : Determining whether students can access the label.

3 Restrict access : Restricting student access this label by different criteria. Please refer to [13.2 Restrict Access] for details.

4 Activity completion : Set the completion criteria. If set Completion tracking to "Students can manually mark the activity as completed", there will be a checkbox next to the label for student use. [Student: Completion Tracking]

5 To confirm the settings, click "Save and return to course".

  • "Save and return to course" : Save the settings and return to the Course Page.

10.1.5 Page

A page resource with Atto Editor allows a page to display different kinds of content, for example, formatting text, image, audio, video, embedded code. It is more accessible and easier to manage.

1 Name : The page name to be displayed on the Course Page.

2 Description : Adding page description if any. Check the box below if you want to display the description to the Course Page.

3 Page Content : Content with various format.

  • Open : The page is displayed in the current browser window.
  • In pop-up : The page is displayed in a new browser window without menus or an address bar.

10.1.6 URL

A URL (Uniform or Universal Resource Locator) resource is a link on the internet to a website or online file which saving the time and effort in manually typing out the address.

2 External URL : The URL to be accessed.

3 Description : Adding URL description if any. Check the box below if you want to display the description to the Course Page.

  • In frame : The page is displayed within the frame.
  • New window : The page is displayed in a new browser window.
  • Open : Only the page is displayed in the browser window.

5 URL variables : passing Moodle internal information as part of the URL.

10.1.7 .mp3 Flle

A audio resource can be play directly on Moodle.

1 Holding the mouse click and drag out the .mp3 file from the computer's file manager.

2 While dragging the file out, move it to the Course Page on the browser.

3 Dropping the file to the corresponding topic by releasing the mouse click.

4 Choose "Add media to course page".

5 The audio file can be played on the Course Page.

 


 

10.1.8 .mp4 File (Stored on OneDrive and Put the link on Moodle)

Note According to file size limitation (i.e. 250MB for course materials), please store the video files on OneDrive (using @COMMON Account) and put the access link on Moodle instead of storing the files directly on Moodle.

Note Starting from 2 June 2021, the Teams meeting recordings for non-channel meetings will be stored on the OneDrive "Recordings" folder of users who started the recordings. The .mp4 file will be shared to all the meeting invitees (exclude the "External User") that updating the meeting invitees after the recording will NOT affect the existing file sharing on OneDrive.
Only the meeting invitees (exclude the "External User") are able to access the link which copied by the "Get link" on Teams Chat. To allow more users to access the .mp4 file, the file owner (i.e. user who started the recording) need to grant access to others by sharing to "People in COMMON@CPCE with the link" / "Specific people".

1 Upload the .mp4 file from the computer's file manager to Teacher's OneDrive @COMMON account via any Internet browsers.

2 Go to the OneDrive File Page, locate the .mp4 file, click the "option" button.

3 Select "Copy link".

4 Click to have more options.

5 Choose "People in COMMON@CPCE with the link".

6 Other settings : Permission "Can view / Can edit". Block download "Enable / Disable".

7 Click the button Apply.

Note For sharing the OneDrive files to users without @common email, please choose "Specific people" and input email addresses one by one.

8 Click the button Copy for copying the link and putting on Moodle.

 

Go to the Moodle Course Page, for entering the Editing Mode.

9 Click the "Actions Icon" on the top right corner.

10 Select "Turn editing on" to manage the course content.

11 Click "Add an activity or resource" in one of the sections.

12 Choose "URL".

13 Click the button "Add".

14 Enter the name of the link.

15 Paste the OneDrive Shared Link here.

16 Click the button "Save and return to course".

The OneDrive video link will be shown on the Moodle Course Page.

1 Go to the OneDrive File Page, locate the .mp4 file, click the "option" button.

2 Choose "Manage access".

3 Sharing can be stopped by "Stop sharing".

4 Sharing can be managed by "Option".

5 Click "Advanced" for more options.
